π‘ Practical strategy to develop charismatic leadership
One practical strategy for developing charismatic leadership is to cultivate active listening skills and genuine empathy
Active listening involves fully engaging with others when they speak, not just passively hearing their words. As a charismatic leader, actively listening allows you to understand the needs, concerns, and aspirations of your team members or audience on a deeper level. It demonstrates that you value their input and perspectives, fostering a sense of trust and connection.
To practice active listening, focus on the following steps:
- Be fully present: Eliminate distractions and give your undivided attention to the person speaking. Maintain eye contact, adopt an open body posture, and show genuine interest in what they have to say.
- Suspend judgment: Avoid interrupting or prematurely forming opinions. Allow the speaker to express themselves fully and without interruption, creating a safe space for open and honest communication.
- Reflect and paraphrase: After the person has finished speaking, summarize their main points or feelings to ensure your understanding. Reflecting back what you’ve heard shows that you value their input and provides an opportunity for clarification if needed.
- Empathize and validate: Seek to understand the emotions and experiences behind the words. Show empathy by acknowledging their feelings and perspectives. Validate their thoughts and emotions to create a supportive and inclusive environment.
By practicing active listening and demonstrating genuine empathy, you can connect with others on a deeper level and build stronger relationships. This approach enhances your charismatic leadership by showing others that you care about their well-being and are invested in their growth and success. It creates a positive and empowering environment that inspires and influences others to believe in themselves and their collective potential.

Great article. You certainly can’t deny the successes that both Elon and Oprah have had. You hear a lot about leadership styles these days. I like the term Charismatic Leadership because I think it lands differently on the ears than Servant Leadership does. I feel that the is a lot of commonality between the two. However, many people seem to think that Servant Leadership means that everyone gets what they want and nobody is held accountable. That is not my understanding of Servant Leadership at all. I think that the 2 terms are almost synonymous. They both promote open honest communication. They both promote respect and trust. They both have the ability to make a company an amazing place full of growth and potential. #peoplefirst

Thank you Rick!
It is very interesting how you brought the 2 “styles” together. I totally agree, they don’t exclude themselves, in my opinion they complement themselves.
When I think about Servant Leadership I think about the Leader that is there to serve the team and the project/ program/ company. The concept of Servant Leadership also promotes the idea of “the success of the team is my success”, “failure of the team is my failure as well” which actually builds accountability at team level and makes members think not only at themselves but at the entire success and all his/ her colleagues. I think Agile defines very well the concept of Servant Leadership and promotes a correct set of principles and values. The Leader is actually a coach for the team that leads the team into absorbing these principles and values.
Charisma helps the leader motivate his/ her team, inspire them, enroll them to his/ her vision, it builds the energy to deliver the goal and it builds the energy that make the leader and his team to feel good working together. So if we we add charisma on top of what Agile defines as Servant Leadership, I think we have a great combo that has a lot of chances for success.
